First things first

Before you can access the dictionary, you have to tell me how you can view Japanese text with your browser.

As far as I know, most modern versions of web browsers, including Mozilla, Firefox and Seamonkey support raw Japanese.

Your web browser should automatically deal with the encoded pages I send, regardless of the [Options/Language Encoding] you have set. If it doesn't work (even after reloading a few times), there's still a chance by trying the other encoding methods by hand.

Of course, none of the Japanese options will work unless you give an appropriate Japanese font for the Options / General Preferences / Fonts / For the Encoding Japanese (JIS X 0208) If you don't have a font, check the lower parts of this page.

If your browser doesn't support Japanese, or if you think it might if only you had the proper fonts, check the lower parts of this page.

Otherwise, you'll have to make due with the (much slower) "image method" (although there is text-only support for your graphically-challenged friends). If you're not sure if you have built in support or not, try viewing these samples of each encoding.

Choose from the following to enter the dictionary server system. Once you're there, you can customize all kinds of things to your liking, perhaps saving the resulting link so that you don't have to go through this gateway in the future.
